Trigon Ensemble

Formed more than 30 years ago, the Trigon ensemble members are sisters Barbara Jane Gilby (violin) and Janet Rutherford (viola), and Janet’s husband Brett Rutherford (‘cello).
In the 1980’s and ‘90’s, the three musicians were members of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Chamber Players. Trio performances took place in numerous Tasmanian venues, Melbourne, Sydney and at the Blackwood River Festival in Western Australia. The trio was frequently called on to present live broadcasts for the ABC at Hobart’s Bond Store.
One of the trio’s aims is to collaborate with other musicians to present a wide variety of chamber music. The list of collaborators is too numerous to list, but most recently they performed the Faure Piano Quartet with Howard Shelley in Kettering and Lynnette Smith in Swansea. Since Barbara left Tasmania for climes further north the trio has reconvened as often as possible and has maintained a wide range of repertoire.
