Robert Manley

Rob Manley, Cello & Recorder

Rob is a freelance cellist, pianist, and recorder player. He recently completed a PhD and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Queensland (UQ). Rob studied the cello with Gwyn Roberts at UQ and later with Howard Penny at the Australian National Academy of Music. Rob has worked with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. He has worked as a staff pianist with Queensland Ballet since 2015 and thrice as official accompanist for the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition. In his abundant spare time, he has been known to perform recorder concertos. With acclaimed Tasmanian violinist Emily Sheppard, Rob premiered the earliest known work for recorder and whipper snipper (2021) in an apple evaporator shed in Franklin. No grass or apples were harmed in this performance, though the critics were suitably revved up after the concert.
